Shane's Spriting Thread

A thread where I can post the things I've sprited in the past.  :P
Feel free to post your opinions on the sprite sheets. ;)


This is Inoratu, a boss from Hope of Shané on Elraphia. He can be battled many times. (If only somebody made an ORG of a song named Ancient Machine, from La-Mulana.)


This is Reverie, a character in Hope of Shané, living in the town. Her side quest involves getting a star flower in the Starry Skies. She is from the Visual Novel, Planetarian (I think. I could've gotten confused with Planetarium).


This is Taylor's first sprite sheet (which she was going to use in her own mod). Her Hope of Shané sprite sheet is smaller. Way smaller. :P
NOTE: When I say "first sprite sheet", I mean that it's the first sprite sheet I did for her character, NOT that it is the first sprite sheet Taylor did.


Sofia from Rune Factory 3. She speaks in opposites. Hilarity will ensue.


Zexion from Kingdom Hearts. He's a main character in Hope of Shané and was fired from the Organization because he tripped over Roxas' Keyblade.


Sakura from Naruto. She's a ninja.


A critter. Taylor wanted me to sprite one, both with the ability to walk (it looks odd) and the ability to fly (it looks up, it looks down, it looks in front of itself).
Implementing that flight ability will probably be difficult, but who knows, with luck it should be possible.

I figured that since this thread exists, may as well use it for myself.


I tried to sprite Henry from Little Fighter 2 into the style used for Cave Story sprites.

This is the result.


The following actions are in that pic:
1. Standing still and blinking
2. Sitting on the ground and blinking
3. Placing an arrow in the bow (whatever that is called)
4. Shooting upwards
5. Shooting downwards
6. Shooting straight forward
7. Lying on the ground
8. Looking back
9. Walking frames for almost everything there


The shooting frames are split into three: the two where he prepares to shoot (with the bow and arrow flashing white), and the one where he fires the arrow.
I could replace those guys in the Sacred Grounds area with Henry clones :))
That is why I did the "shooting" frames, although those archers from the Sacred Grounds can't fire downwards, sadly.


Anyway, it took me a few days, and also explains my inactivity, right?
What do you guys think of this?

You did better than that imposter, assuming you didn't edit sprites to get him, of course, like what he almost always did.

Even if you did edit the sprites, this looks well done.

Um.
Hikari Amy has those antennae-things. That's going to be difficult to re-add. But I'll do it anyway.
Yami Amy... um. I'm going to be scared, but what can I do about that? I'll just have to do it with my eyes closed. (And then end up causing havoc.)
"Twilight Amy"... that could work as a name. :)
Although her sprites will be different from True Amy.

Secondly, facepics for yours truly, using the character sprites of Hope of Shané.
Guess I can do that second request of yours too.

Thirdly, an alternate outfit or several for Amy.
Um.
How am I going to do that and have it in-game? ???
I could do it in the form of alternate "MyChar.bmp" files, though...

I think there's an ASM mod that'll allow you to have more than two alternate outfits for your character (in the original game, Quote has two outfits: his default look and him wearing a mimiga mask).

Um.
I think I did Taylor's first two requests correctly.


The top three are Hikari Amy.

The middle four are Yami Amy. It's too difficult to add the scary mask, though.
She keeps her eyes closed until the boss fight begins, at which point she'll have the mask on.
Apparently Yami Amy acts like Ballos, and as far as I know, Ballos only speaks with his eyes closed.

The lower four are facepics that Taylor requested me to make based on Hope of Shané-Taylor.

I forgot Twilight Amy. :-\
Sorry!

Although I could just give Amy a grey outfit when the Twilight Amy is playable.

Um.



For spriting practice, I tried to improve a Rook and Pawn that Wayne did in Hero's Return (see this post).

The Rook moves as though it was a car or something. (Two wheels.)
The top Rook fires lasers at its enemies (when the green "eye" turns red), and the lower Rook extends a fist to punch its enemies to death.

The left Pawn fights with a sword and can walk. The Pawn on the right can fly, but that's it.


Basically, I just gave the Rook a pattern, added some wheels, added a chain and fist, added a sword to the Pawns as well as some form of shading (I guess? the head is supposed to be shiny or something like that) and wings to the other Pawns.
I had a hard time with the fist, though. :))

Enough practice for tonight, though.

I have an Idea for a critter flying.

You need ASM though. Find the values of the booster fuel and the speed of flight (I can't help you with that, you should go on the CS forums). Then go to the spriteset that has the graphics of the booster particles, and erase it. Then you need a sound editor, so change the booster sound to a flying critters'.
