NOTATION:
N/A


A player may not check the enemy king, but may move his own king into check. Victory comes to the player when his opponent can't escape giving check.
The chessboard has 11 ranks and files.
Players start with their Kings on their first F file / rank (we need a "Glossary" thread here). Black on f11, and White on f1.
White places his remaining pieces anywhere he likes on his side of the board, and Black does the same. White moves first, as always.
Each player has two Queens, two Rooks, one Knight, and four Bishops.

Checking the opponent isn't allowed, as mentioned already. In the event that it's the only move a player can make (giving check), he/she loses.
Players may make a move putting his/her own King in check from an enemy piece or two, unless the move would also give check to the opponent King.
When a player is in check, his/her opponent has to remove the check on the next turn, or else he/she loses the game.

Capturing a King is forbidden. He who captures a King shall suffer retribution at the hands of the Seekers of the Truth.
Charlotte Seymour has placed her chess pieces. Dr. Egregious, please place your chess pieces.

If anyone asks... Yes, I decided to add that "VS" thing willingly; if I'm listening to the Unova Gym Leader battle theme from Pokémon Black 2 / White 2, may as well go a bit overboard, right? ;)
Speaking of which, I'll be listening to aforementioned song throughout the entire chess match. I tend to think of Dr. Egregious as the Chess-equivalent of a Gym Leader, considering he's a skilled chess player.


SHANE: So Dr. Egregious is a Gym Leader? :P

The VS header is a very nice touch.   :D   Just one question to settle before I place my pieces: how are you interpreting "my side of the board"?  Is that just Rank 11, or Ranks 6-11?

Not sure; Wikipedia doesn't say much. (At least, not that I can see.)
Let's just make it ranks 09 - 11 for Black and 01 - 03 for White.


Also, Shane (you could've just posted instead of editing my post :P):
If Pokémon was chess, Dr. Egregious would either be a Gym Leader, Elite Four member or maybe even the Champion. :))
As for the thread title, I don't really see Unicode symbols like ♥ or ♦ or ♣ or ♠ in thread titles.

King to g11.  I suppose this is technically check.   :D    EDIT: I have just noticed a gaping hole in the rules.  XD  There is absolutely nothing to stop you from playing 3. Qxg11, preventing me from winning because I won't have a king to be checkmated.  Similarly, I can do the same to you as soon as you move into check, and then the game would be a guaranteed draw unless somebody felt like resigning.  So I believe we should amend the rules to forbid the capture of kings.

Yep, it's checkmate.

Charlotte's Bishop on a01 and Rook on h01 caused Double Check.


That was the fastest match I've ever seen. :o
