Dr. Time:
Hello everyone.
This is not a thread about any sort of mods/projects/just for fun stuff/ whatever, but more of an advice thread.
You all know the recent events about Shane. The news that ONE hacker got hold of his e-mail password, and used it for himself to his full extent. The hacker started 3 forums and countless accounts on other sites.
The accounts he made using Shane's account according to Taylor. (Thx Taylor,BTW)

Surprised? I was too at first.
After Shane took control and the hacker was sent off to oblivion, it got me into thinking.
How hopelessly outgunned are we? The hackers nowadays have become a LOT advanced.
This thing that happened to Shane was done by someone who knew him VERY well. He knew almost everything about Shane. Although Taylor found flaws in his act and kaboom. We know the rest.
The fact that the person knew him so well got me into thinking that either-
A)The hacker is his neighbor,friend,etc.
B)The hacker found SOME way to spy on him.
Assuming that A did not take place (but it still could), B is more likely.
If people are so into hacking, they might EVEN get into spying for what's worth. Hidden cameras, breaking in,....the possibilities are endless, now that technology is so advanced.
But remember.
What happened to Shane CAN happen to us.
Thus the point of this thread.
This world is filled with jerks like the hacker. If they strike one of us, we have to deal with it. But can we? He might cause havoc before we get a hold of him. Maybe even incurable damage.
There's a saying-
"Prevention is better than cure" (Not sure if you've heard of it...oh well)
We MUST prevent the hackers from reaching us like this. We have to make a stand.
I'll repeat some already known advice, mainly because many of us disregard it as useless. But no, they are not.
* Change your password often.
* Use a password you're sure that only YOU will know.
* NEVER use the same password for multiple sites- Mainly because IF (and that's a HUGE if) a hacker gets a hold of one of your accounts, he won't be able to get another.
* Keep EXTRA care with your e-mail.
* Never write down your password. If you HAVE to, make sure to guard it well.
* Don't tell anyone about it, even if you trust them. People can blurt out things without knowing it, so keep your password in your head.
* In the event that one of your forum accounts get hacked, notify the staff members as soon as possible.
Thanks to-
Taylor for point no. 5
Kushagra for point no. 6
KarjamP for a variation to point no. 5
Shane for point no. 7
Keep the ideas coming...
~~
Sure, some of you might say "I know all this", "This is stupid. I don't need this." , "PEW PEW DIE YOU *kapowsers*", etc.
Yes, you might know of all this. But don't....NEVER.... disregard it. This is important stuff. We don't want anyone else to face what Shane has already faced.
I'm just spreading the cause. Making sure that everything and everyone is safe.
And you can't blame me for caring.
You guys are one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I really care for your safety.
Just hope that you will take the advice for protection against the hackers.
Now that I look back, I have written a lot, haven't I? :P
What can I say. I got lost while typing...
At the same time, my coffee is finished. I guess I'll go now.
Be smart. Stay safe.
The person who cares for what he believes in,

(P.S Some of you guys COULD spread the word in other forums by quoting this post...)

Only one, which should be pretty obvious.
Never write it down anywhere.
Yet there are some people who write it down anyway.
And I agree with Dr. Time.
We HAVE to make a stand!
Dr. Time:
Okay added your suggestion to the list. Thanks Taylor.
SlasherOmegaUltima - Prince of Rankaros:
Don't tell anyone about it, even if you trust them. People can blurt out things without knowing it, so keep your password in your head.
Polaris:
Uh...
I have many passwords, and I keep a list of them in a Writer document on my phone. Sure, it'd be bad if my phone was stolen, but I don't believe a hacker would be able to access that document, right?
