Actually, you can.

If I remember correctly, it now threads the comments so that they're all in one place (I think only in new posts, though).

Also, it's possible to sort it via "new posts" instead of "top posts" just by clicking on the list and selecting it.

And how does it not function to you?

And the only reason why everyone seems to hate it is because "everyone" is the most vocal of the bunch.
 
Most of the ones who do like it are either shunned or are quiet about it. (the former is the reason why Taylor got mad at me in the first place. Gosh, these people who can't respect other's opinions!).

EDIT: If you can't see the comments, it's because they've changed the way the comments load.

Apparently, it's now a separate web page that's embedded in your window.

Your browser's probably struggling to fetch said web page and making it active (as, AFAIK, it relies on the fact that it's connected to the internet).
It's not a matter of respecting others opinions, they had a system that worked and now it doesn't. Comment threads are non-existent and although you can set it to newest first, it auto-defaults to top.
